International Reggae And World Music Awards

At the request of people of New York and members of business and entertainment communities – the 27th INTERNATIONAL REGGAE AND WORLD MUSIC AWARDS (IRAWMA) will again be held at the world famous Apollo Theatre, in New York City, Sunday, May 4th, 2008.

IRAWMA established in 1982, with the mission to acknowledge and honor the accomplishments and contributions of entertainers in the categories of Reggae, Caribbean and other world music. Further to provide a forum for songwriters, performers and musicians to be recognized for their artistic efforts and achievements. The impetus behind the awards is a commitment to promoting greater participation and acceptance of Reggae, Caribbean and World Music, internationally.

IRAWMA each year, brings together the best and the most talented in world music. The “made for television” event “harmonizes” the industry’s most prominent world entertainers from across the globe and recognizes their accomplishment in some 40 categories. Prior to, throughout the event and post event, IRAWMA’s sponsors will be recognized and awarded for their contributions to the transmission of Reggae and World Music.

IRAWMA’s list of Award winners includes the biggest and brightest stars, like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, Stevie Wonder, Gloria Estefan, Marcia Griffiths, Rita Marley, Sean Paul, Shaggy, UB40, Lucky Dube, Bono and Tina Turner to name a few.

Today, IRAWMA sits on a solid foundation with twenty-seven consecutive year of honoring Reggae and World Music’s best. The organization is well recognized as the industry’s oldest and most prestigious forum in its category.
