7DAYPSA Film Competition

The 7DAYPSA and The Maine Studios are partnering to help deserving non-profit organizations that do not have the funds to produce a broadcast quality PSA to raise awareness for their cause.

The purpose of this competition is to challenge filmmakers to use their skills to meet a major need for local non-profit organizations. This opportunity will provide great experience to filmmakers and be a broadcast credit for their resumes.

Media outlets once able to produce and air PSAs for free no longer have production resources or personnel. Concurrently, local independent filmmakers have the skills to produce original and imaginative short films and are looking to garner professional credits.

The 7DAYPSA is a week-long competition where teams (“Agencies”) beat the clock to produce three single, broadcast quality PSAs in 20, 30 & 60 second increments for deserving, local non-profits (“Clients”). The Clients are determined by a random draw at the start of the competition by the agencies. Following the draw, the agency has seven days to go from concept to completion.

For the agencies this will be a writing, shooting, and editing challenge. The object is for the agencies to complete as many professional broadcast quality PSAs for the clients, who will choose three. The seven day period provides agencies time to attend media and marketing classes for building theoretical knowledge and to exercise the practical applications necessary for completing the PSAs.

If we all work together, the 7DAYPSA competition’s greatest success will be its ability to shed light on the arts, spotlight local filmmaking talent, and help worthy organizations in and around Maine.
