Team "Tremendous"
A TREMENDOUS BIOGRAPHY
Travis turned professional with (former Manager) Panos Eliades of Panix Promotion in 1997, and made his professional debut on February 10, 1998 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he stopped Michael Brown in the 3rd round. The year 2000 proved to be a good year for Travis as one of the highlights included fighting on the Lennox Lewis/David Tua under card on November 11, 2000.
Travis (who was un-rated at the time) fought and beat then #3 WBC and #7 WBA rated Kevin Kelly of Australia. The Australian fighter had previously fought an impressive controversial fight against Olympic Gold Medalist –
David Reid for the WBA World Championship and had high hopes and good intentions of beating Travis to put himself back into title contention. Travis had higher hopes and greater intentions and dominated the world-rated Kelly every round and knocked him down twice before winning a unanimous decision!
On November 1, 2002 Travis accomplished yet another goal on his road to becoming World Champion. He captured the N.A.B.A Super-Welterweight Championship Title- with an 8th round TKO victory over Anton Robinson of Louisville, KY.
After a 13 month layoff – Travis Simms finally received his opportunity to fight for the WBA World Title. The WBA had mandated the title fight between (then Champion) Alejandro “Terra” Garcia of Tijuana, Mexico.
Coming in to the fight on December 13, 2003 on the “Night of the Undisputed” boxing card – Garcia was 22-0, 22kos.
Travis had previously viewed Garcia in his last bout on September 20, 2003 where Garcia stopped Rhoshii Wells in the 10th round. Travis knew then that his opportunity was next and that he had every intention of dethroning Alejandro Garcia. On December 13, 2003, Tremendous became the “new” WBA Super-Welterweight Champion of the World with a 5th round KO over the “Terra” Garcia.
Saturday, October 2, 2004 at Madison Square Garden, Travis made his first defense of his crown against veteran Bronco McKart (47-5, 31 KOs). On Simms’ last fight on January 6, 2007 impression on everyone by defeating Jose Antonio Rivera by a 9th Round TKO. The fight card was dubbed “Night of the Redemption” and Simms displayed a Tremendous showcase.
