Cork TRansport RFC

Cork TRansport RFC

To whom it may concern,
My name is Derek
Bowler. I am a member of the fundraising committee and current playing
squad of Cork Transport Rugby Football Club. Based in Mayfield Co.
Cork, we are a junior club plying our trade in the j3 league.

Transport began in 1952 and has a reputation as a working mans club, a
Community based club However over the last few years transport has struggled to
Attract new players and leadership. However, this year has seen an upturn in Fortunes,
A dependable and experienced coach, a strong committee with goals and of course a strong squad of players!
Probably the biggest achievement of all for our
Club was the negoation of a home pitch for the first time. In 57
Years transport has never had a home pitch and played all their games
away until now. Our pitch is an old municipal ground split in two with
one half being our own, and the other being used by a local soccer
Team! Everything to do with the pitch has to be organized by
Ourselves. From turning it from a overgrown park for people to walk
their dogs, to the "Thomand Park" of Mayfield.
This is a challenging time for us as their are certain restrictions upon us however it is our unity as a club that is powering us forward. We are currently awaiting delivery of our goal posts and the marking and lining of the pitch will soon follow. We recently purchased a generator and a squad member lets us use his portable work lights twice a week so we can train! And Mayfield G.A.A club have generously given us the use of their old dressing rooms on
training and match days! Not ideal but we have ambition and are
willing to do what is necessary to prepare for our games!
Our squad consists of
people of all walks of life, from a surveyor to a shop assistant,
students to a lawyer and some people unfortunately unemployed in the
current economic climate. Some experienced players reliving old glory
days to people who are playing rugby for the very first time! We are a
solid bunch of lads becoming more and more like family each day.
Having a team like this brings a sense of pride to a less fortunate
area such as Mayfield and brings a community together in these testing
times! Future plans and goals of ourselves is to develope our player
base and enter two junior teams in the j2 & j3 leagues respectively
witin a year or two. Run summer camps for the local children in the
area and hopefully develope a underage section for the youth of the
area to join! Who knows , the next Paul O' Connell or Ronan O' Gara
could be learning his skills with us in a few years time!

Although this sounds fantastic it has taken a lot of determination and
persistence to get this far! Drawing on favors and fundraising and
sacrificing so much just to get us to this point has been tough but
well worth it!
The reason I write to you
today is to ask for your assistance. Though we are an amateur club, it
is important we look every bit as professional as our counterparts
both on the training pitch and in our matches. We do not have any
training aids, our rugby balls are worn and our jerseys are tired! Our
dream is to have our squad arrive for matches and training in our club
gear matching and everyone the same! " all for one and one for all"
To have club gear we can respect and be proud of! However with our
financial constraints we have to continue supporting each other and
sharing all our gear!

We would be honored and deeply Appreciative if you could possibly
make A donation to us. Anything in any shape or form would Would be
greatly and deeply appreciated! And would change the lives of our
squad both on and off the pitch!
On behalf of Cork Transport R.F.C
I would like to thank you for taking the time out to read this letter
and wish you every success in your own future endeavors!
