CU Paintball

HISTORY: We are the University of Colorado at Boulder tournament paintball team. The team was first organized and registered with the National College Paintball Association (NCPA) in late August of 2007. Blitz, our home field, offered us a sponsorship which helped to give discount field and paint fees. Our group became registered through the university as an independent student group, and we played our first five-man tournament at Blitz. We placed fifth in the rookie division. As the Colorado winter came to a close, CU Paintball began again to play local tournaments and we entered into the 2008 Blitz Championship series. After more team organization and practice, CU placed first in the first five-man rookie tournament of the series. We placed fifth in the next three-man tournament, we placed first in the next five-man tournament, and then placed fourth in the most recent three-man tournament in the series. Overall, I believe we are ranked second in the rookie division behind only UCCS, the Colorado Springs branch of CU. Most recently, our team traveled down to Color Splash in Pueblo, Colorado to play a five-man tournament there. Due to a lack of teams, the novice and rookie divisions were combined, so CU ended up playing several games against novice-level teams. At the end of the preliminary round, CU was ranked second in the combined rookie/novice bracket. We ended up going on to place first in the Color Splash five-man that day. LOOKING FORWARD: The CU paintball team will continue to play in the 2008 Blitz Championship series and will move into the novice division next spring. Our goal as a student group is to compete at the national level against other colleges and universities through the NCPA. The group continues to gain exposure at both the University of Colorado and at surrounding area paintball fields. With our success in the Blitz Championship series so far, we have already become well-known among the local teams from Northern Colorado.
